We are going to be given access to the Ramova!

Great news!

I received a call from John Molloy of the City's Department of Planning and Development. John tells me that he has spoken with Alderman Balcer and they have found a way for us to enter and see the inside of the Ramova for ourselves! Finally!!!! John is going to get back in touch with me asap to set a date. I am really trying to get in before our public meeting on 3/22. Wish me luck!

John also tells me he will set a date with the prospective developer after we see the inside of the theater. This too has been a long time coming, so hopefully it will be in the very near future too.

I'm very excited to finally be able to go into the Ramova. It's been many years and I can't wait. :-)

More soon..

Hmm...maybe somebody heard about this on WGN and spoke to somebody in City Hall about the whole thing.

I hope you get to take digital photos of the inside, so we can all see. Thanks for the update.

I received the call from the City right before the WGN show, so no, we don't have our WGN appearance to thank. Just follow-up and diligence. :-)

I will try to bring a camera in for sure. I'd love to really bring in a video camera, but let's see what they'll hold still for and I'll do it. :-)

I haven't heard back from John Molloy yet re:date for entry. It's Friday night, so I guess I have to hang tight until next week.

More soon, I hope:

Still no word about the date of entry or meeting with developer. All of the "powers that be" have been contacted. I will keep you posted regarding access etc.

Date of entry is FINALLY scheduled for the Alderman to "give us a tour of the theatre". Unfortunately, it's TWO DAYS after our meeting, so March 24th is when we will actually see the Ramova. Rob and I are the only ones they are letting inside. We are fighting to bring a camera in, more on this soon. I'm excited, but not happy that I can't get in sooner, with a structural engineer or architect as we have been requesting, to share at the meeting.

Thanks for the news, that's Good to hear.

Any idea what time of the day you'll be in there? I have to go work, but it would be nice to walk over to the theater and see people coming in and out. A sign of life in that building is rare, indeed.

Sorry to say, I just found out that the Alderman has been called out of town on business, per Kelly at the 11th Ward Office.

I do have a message in to reschedule our entry into the theater asap.

More soon...

I just spoke with Kelly at the 11th ward office. Basically, we are going to be rescheduled "in the next couple of weeks". She has to see when John from DPD and the Alderman have a day when they can both be available to enter the theater.

I'll stay on it.
